The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Major Acquisition for United
The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building momentum.
Recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having arrived from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
