The President Welcomes Loved Ones of Attacked Guard Soldiers to the White House

President Donald Trump stated on the weekend that he has asked the relatives of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to attend the presidential home.

He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “heartbroken”.

Background on the Heartbreaking Shooting

Specialist Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a attack on Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in critical condition.

Gatherings across the state have occurred in their remembrance.

White House Invitation

The commander-in-chief said he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president told journalists. “And similarly with him, whether he recovers or not.”

Public Support

Attendees gathered over the weekend at Webster County high school in the state to pay respects to Beckstrom.

Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the state guard as part of the president’s national effort to support law enforcement in DC.

Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom

“Sarah was the kind of student that educators wished for. She behaved with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that lifted those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of Beckstrom’s previous school, stated to the Associated Press. “She was caring, compassionate and always eager to support those in need.”

Service plans for Sarah are still being arranged.

Judicial Steps and Policy Revisions

Officials have charged a 29-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of homicide and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.

The event caused the Trump administration to halt refugee claims and cease issuing visas to owners of travel documents.

Condition of Wolfe

Andrew Wolfe, a resident of the city, enlisted in February 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, as reported by the AP.

He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader the governor stated on a news program.

Attorney general Bondi told the program that she also intended to meet with the family.

Impact of Sarah Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a military police officer with honor, per the state guard.

“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had bravery,” the governor addressed the gathering at the vigil. “Though her life ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
