The network's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Major Extension for Two More Seasons.

During the fall season, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, not long after, the channel launched a fresh animated series with a strikingly different vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a serene talk show. During a period often characterized by dark humor, this show's sincerity struck a chord and helped it become a breakout hit.

A Two-Season Greenlight

On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.

"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," said Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."

Network Praise

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who discovered the show and championed its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about watching this charming family navigate their daily lives.

At the time, creator Joe Cappa shared his hope to help comedy break out of its prevailing layer of irony. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well catalyze that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences more opportunities to bask in the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.

The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
