The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Selected the Incorrect Critical Role Song
The Mighty Nein, the newest animated adventure from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new opening credits. It features the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching personal histories for key figures such as Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, the character Fjord.
All in all, the opening appears stunning. However, I felt that something was missing in the music selection.
The intro uses "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional composition composed by artist the talented musician. This piece originating from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release put out by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental choice, and I suspect that devotees of the second campaign will love its presence.
But for me, The series' opening fails to capture the hype and energy that was part of the second campaign's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", composed by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic for me when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.
Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't seen the follow-up series yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. This track that excites you before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but based on my understanding of this party, I feel that its tone is a little off.
Of course, Critical Role has already said that the series will have some changes and variations from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its intro seems to be one of them.
The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait before that, or wish to prepare to get to know the characters of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the original episodes are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
