Reigning Aryna Sabalenka Claims Consecutive WTA Player of the Year Awards.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second successive season.
The twenty-seven-year-old won four tournament victories – the highest tally on the circuit – which included successfully defending the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles title.
A Year of Consistency
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The star player also won the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the whole season as the world number one, concluding 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
In July, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to top 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.
Record-Breaking Statistics
Sabalenka finished the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and picked up a record ÂŁ11m in prize money.
She earned nearly eighty percent of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "help bring women's tennis to a new level".
Additional WTA Award Honorees
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking 13-month break after the birth of her daughter and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko picked up the award after beginning the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after securing their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz took home three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third time.
