Eulogies Flow for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Remain Under Wraps.
More than two weeks after the tragic deaths of renowned filmmaker Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, the entertainment community are still paying respects to the couple.
Quoting a Classic: Cary Elwes Pays Tribute to His Director
Writing on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he only now felt ready to share openly about his personal sorrow.
"Sufficient time has elapsed that I can now express my sorrow into words," wrote Elwes, adding that his introductory moment with Reiner made him fall in love. "Once we started passing more hours together I knew this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor shared archival material from the film, remarking that he doesn't recollect "one day without laughter".
"The movie is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Things that Rob cherished deeply. That is part of the many reasons he was the best person to guide it," Elwes expressed.
He additionally honored Michele Reiner, saying: "To say that they were a formidable pair would be an oversimplification. My heart still hurts every time I remember you." He ended with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Friend and Collaborator
In a separate essay, legendary director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"Immediately, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a natural affinity for each other. He was very funny and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese wrote.
Scorsese pointed out Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, portraying the father of the protagonist.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked seamlessly with his co-stars, and he comprehended the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Withheld
This week, a Los Angeles judge agreed to bar the release of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, at the request from the local authorities.
A legal directive placed a restriction on the cases to prohibit the public release of "all case details, notes, reports or photos" associated with the active case.
The Medical Examiner's office had already determined their deaths were the outcome of homicide, with a official listing listing the cause as "injuries from a sharp object".
Aftermath and Reactions
After the deaths, public figures offered divergent comments.
Former President Donald Trump commented on the matter, making divisive claims that were widely condemned by numerous individuals.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his perspective to the those speaking out recently. Talking on his podcast, Rogan labeled the statements as "disturbing" and implied they showed a worrisome deficiency of sympathy.
Rogan finished by remarking that an associate should have intervened when the impulse to speak on the tragedy was made.
