Debated US-backed GHF Aid Organization Terminates Aid Operations

The controversial, United States and Israel-funded GHF aid organization says it is concluding its humanitarian work in the Palestinian territory, following nearly half a year.

The organisation had earlier paused its three food distribution sites in Gaza following the ceasefire between Hamas and Israel was implemented in recent weeks.

The foundation sought to circumvent United Nations channels as the chief distributor of relief to Palestinian residents.

International relief agencies declined to participate with its methodology, stating it was improper and dangerous.

Many residents were killed while trying to acquire nourishment amid turbulent circumstances near the organization's distribution points, mainly through Israeli military action, as reported by United Nations.

Israel said its troops fired alerting fire.

Mission Completion

The foundation announced on the beginning of the week that it was concluding activities now because of the "satisfactory fulfillment of its crisis response", with a total of three million packages containing the corresponding to over 187 million food portions distributed to Gazans.

The foundation's chief officer, the executive director, further mentioned the US-led Civil-Military Coordination Centre (CMCC) - which has been set up to help implement the United States' Palestinian peace proposal - would be "adopting and expanding the model GHF piloted".

"The foundation's approach, in which Palestinian factions were unable to divert and benefit from humanitarian assistance, had major impact in bringing Palestinian factions to negotiations and securing a halt in hostilities."

Reactions and Responses

The militant group - which disputes allegations of misappropriation - supported the shutdown of the GHF, as indicated by media.

A spokesman for stated the foundation should be subject to scrutiny for the harm it caused to Palestinians.

"We urge all international human rights organisations to guarantee that responsibility is assigned after causing the death and injury of thousands of Gazans and covering up the food deprivation strategy implemented by the Israeli government."

Organization Timeline

The organization commenced activities in Gaza on late May, a week after the Israeli government had moderately reduced a comprehensive closure on aid and commercial deliveries to Gaza that lasted 11 weeks and caused severe shortages of vital resources.

Three months later, a famine was declared in Gaza City.

The GHF's food distribution sites in the southern and middle regions of Gaza were operated by US private security contractors and located inside areas controlled by Israeli forces.

Aid Organization Objections

United Nations agencies and their collaborators stated the methodology breached the basic relief guidelines of neutrality, impartiality and independence, and that guiding distressed residents into military-controlled areas was intrinsically hazardous.

The UN's human rights office stated it documented the fatalities of no fewer than 859 Gazans trying to acquire sustenance in the proximity to foundation locations between 26 May and 31 July.

Another 514 people were lost their lives close to the paths taken by United Nations and additional relief shipments, it also mentioned.

Most of them were killed by the Israeli forces, based on the agency's reports.

Divergent Narratives

Israeli defense forces claimed its forces had fired warning shots at persons who advanced toward them in a "menacing" way.

The organization declared there were no shooting events at the distribution centers and claimed the international organization of using "false and misleading" statistics from the Gazan medical department controlled by militant factions.

Future Implications

The GHF's future had been indefinite since Hamas and Israel agreed a truce agreement to execute the primary segment of the American administration's peace initiative.

It said aid distribution would take place "absent meddling from the involved factions through the United Nations and its agencies, and the humanitarian medical organization, in conjunction with other global organizations not associated in any manner" with Palestinian factions and Israeli authorities.

International organization official Stephane Dujarric said on Monday that the organization's termination would have "no influence" on its work "since we never collaborated with them".

The official further mentioned that while increased relief was entering the region since the truce was implemented on 10 October, it was "insufficient to address all necessities" of the over two million inhabitants.
