Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night indicating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of player the athlete and had been in communication with the NFL.

The organization omitted the name of Rice specifically in their announcement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.

Allegations Shared on Social Media

The woman, who also did not mention the athlete directly, shared a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She did say the person involved was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.

Police Reports Currently Unavailable

No official complaints were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Player's Recent Legal Issues

Rice was absent for the initial part of this season following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that left multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

On the field, he concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
