Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for doubts to be asked about his position after another heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.

Liverpool endured their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the team's poorest streak since being relegated in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got a lot of backing from the top,” Slot stated.

“It would be great to change things and earn three points obviously but if you are coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”

He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it is about time that we turned it around.”

Talks with The Board

When asked to expand on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:

“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time of the day to say they back me.”

He mentioned, “During our regular exchanges I perceive the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this game so far so let’s see.”

Recurring Failings and Squad Response

The manager expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.

“It is not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the words.”

He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club for years.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a period of this nature with results so bad.”

Jones finished, “But we continue to wear that badge on our shirts. And as long as it is gone, we'll continue to fight.”

“We will attempt to help the side back to where it needs to be, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the greatest side in the planet.”

“But right now, we're in trouble and we have to turn it around.”
