A Mountain of Anime News Landed Over the Festive Season

The Yuletide season present a plethora of pursuits far superior than checking the headlines: opening presents, feasting on holiday treats, and harnessing meditation skills to avoid arguing with relatives. Hopefully you managed to do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Numerous thrilling announcements surfaced during the festive period, and should you overlooked a few, here is a summary of the biggest bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (In 2027)

Perhaps the biggest revelation, the notorious controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to deter further production. The show will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they might as well have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain at the helm. Thankfully this time, director Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the outset, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. Yet, the main art for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This suggests that, at this point, they are probably teasing the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the First Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had never worked on an anime stemming from a manga from Shonen Jump, possibly the best-known magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo became widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series proved it maintained the fans' appreciation and enthusiasm, and now the community is thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works

Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been airing for years, and season 6 was a further stellar entry. As it happens that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in development, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

One more studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its projects, Science Saru has brought us masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the true story of Fatima, an influential woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.

Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Season Two

Shortly after the conclusion of episode 24, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be getting a second season. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm release date has not been disclosed yet.
